Slurry pumps are widely applied in mines, coal, electricity, water, environment and other industries. The wear problem of wet parts is the most serious in material conveying. The fast wear of pump liners causes the short service life of pump and waste of manpower, material resources and financial resources.
The aspects below would help to solve the wear problem:
Adopt advanced design theory and model
The main reason causing wear and damage of slurry pump is the impact and wear of solid materials in conveying. So it is useful to design pump according to solid-liquid two-phase flow theory which considers the change relationship of solid-liquid two-phase velocity field and knows the variation of concentration ratio.
Select reasonable impeller parameter
1. Inlet diameter design of the impeller blades
Inlet diameter of impeller has certain influence on flow capacity, wear level of wet parts and hydraulic efficiency of slurry pump. If the blade diameter is too small, over-current fault area will decrease which will accelerate the flow velocity in the leaves at the entrance, and the material and the carrier have serious detachment phenomenon. It not only increases the volume loss, but also accelerates uneven wear of the wet parts. Therefore, the inlet diameter of impeller blade should be moderate.
2. Outlet width design of blades
The outlet width of blade should be larger, which can reduce the relative velocity at the impeller outlet, and reduce wear and jet phenomenon, but should not be too large, otherwise that easily lead to hump phenomenon, and cause the pump running unstable.
3. The number design of blades
The more slurry pump impeller blades, the smaller wear of solid-liquid two-phase, because the large distance between the blades can reduce the crowding phenomenon in impeller inlet and outlet.
4. Reasonable matching between impeller and volute
In part, the wear level is depended on pump volute design. If the design is unreasonable, it will speed up the wear rate. The design must match with the impeller and reduce the flow speed inside the volute.
In addition, there are many other ways to solve the wear problem, using wear- resistant materials as liners of slurry pump, etc.
